You want to learn more about the SNSounds Live Project? Read on... SNSounds Live is a project offering opportunities for young people who are interested in music. It uses music as a vehicle to encourage more confidence and self esteem. Skills such as communication and negotiation are part of the process, as a deeper understanding of organisational skills and links with local communties are essential to the project's success. The project offers a live performance once a month, held in the young people's local area, to enable their friends and relatives access to the gig. Meetings are held once a month when the organising committee of young people make decisions and plan future events. Two of these events are outdoor festival style gigs and allow young people to experience another performance medium. We have a p.a system and lighting equipment which can be borrowed by the bands when organising their own gigs. We have provided sound engineering courses, DJ courses and specialist music days which have been funded by the project. Some of these include voice workshops, rythm section awareness and performance awareness. The project has also developed a peer education group that provides music workshops for younger musicians in the form of residentials and day workshops. We are heading towards the project's 12th Year and it will continue to be successful, not only becuase of the need that is evident but also the young people, staff and audience continually find the sessions great fun! Almost all the bands that have been part of the project have gone on to record, write their own material and play at larger venues, in the United Kingdom and so the project has become a good stepping stone. |
